About The Team

We've all had that experience, riding down the side of the road, and all of a sudden a car whizzes past from behind, out of nowhere and without warning, scaring the daylights out of you. Doesn't matter if you're in a dedicated bike lane in a busy city or out on the open road.
Velalert is on a mission to bring radar technology to the world of bicycling to help make cycling safer for everyone on the road. Automobile collisions are the number one cause of cycling deaths annually, and as cycling grows in importance for both urban and suburban commuting globally, bicyclists need to be more aware of what's going on around them while they're out on the road. And the bicycle radar technology to provide that awareness is on it's way.

Velalert is a new project started by Paul O'Leary, one of the co-founders of Companion Bike Seat. The idea for Velalert bicycle radar technology began with a phone conversation in 2014 between Paul and his dad, an avid cyclist and former amateur racer, and formally launched earlier this year. Velalert is based in San Francisco CA, and partnered with Radicand Inc, a colaboratory based in Redwood City CA, to develop the initial radar technology for Velalert. We've also teamed up with Blake Johnson on industrial design to make Velalert as sleek and as sexy as the iPhone in terms of how it looks and how you interact with it.

We've assembled the team to make Velalert bicycle radar technology a reality and we're en route to making it happen! Join our email list for updates on when Velalert will be available for purchase.
